The stories of these women are quite interesting and have been thoroughly researched; the "authorites consulted" list is two pages long. There are also 13 steel engraving portraits of some of the ladies (should be 14, but Cleopatra is missing). This is an attractive volume, standing 9 3/4" and bound in deep red cloth to simulate leather. The covers are thick with bevelled compartments; the front cover has a gold design in each compartment and the rear cover has the center decoration repeated. It is in fair to good condition, with the front cover being loose and a bit shaky, plus the first end pages and Title Page are missing, so I can only estimate the date based on research. It is still a scarce volume full of interesting reading!
